about

Musical Strategy:

"Back in 2015, on the liner notes of The Baltika Years, I mention that all of “Pausebreak”s tracks were based on the three ways you can combine combinations of 2s and 3s in an 8 note sequence. A few years ago I recently came up with two 16-note sequential algorithms that reminds me of old drum & bass, that was used on many of the the tracks. About half the tracks are 4 minutes and twenty seconds long."

CCM & Religion:

"From age seven to the present, I have been a (lifelong staunch) Atheist. However, in high school, I sang in two chorus classes, regular chorus and a cappella. I sang mostly religious music; both Classical and African-American Spiritual. I then sang in the Brooklyn College chorus, where I remember singing all of Haydn's “The Creation” and Mozart’s “Requiem”. Insternigly, my mother went to the High School For Music and Art and he told me she loved to sing Handel’s Messiah in her chorus. During this time I discovered the music of Arvo Pärt and John Tavener (the latter whom I saw perform, many years ago!). Both composers are from school of “Holy Minimalism”. Then somewhere in 2016, I discovered I love the “semi-Christian Contemporary Music” band Mutemath. I think when I heard Newsboys several years ago I really got into CCM, and in the last year I have seen Mutemath, Disciple, Red, Switchfoot, Relient K, Newsboys and The Afters. This will sound weird, but listening to so much CCM has made me a better Atheist."

The Album:

"All tracks were recorded in March and April of this year. What I do is take a song I can’t stop listening to, and do something transformative with it. Most of the tracks have a very hazy, expansive sound and are very influenced by the Eccojams of Chuck Person, shoegaze, and of course, vaporwave! I made these tracks for myself, and I usually drive a lot and listen to my own jams that I upload and make private. All of the material in this album falls into ‘Fair Use’, because of their transformative nature .And finally, any time I make one of these tracks, I say that I “vaped” the source material, hence the title."
